Trials for beginners.jpg

A guide to help you prepare when you want to start doing trials in the Roses.

minimum levels

Although you can enter trials at lower levels, we recommend 50/160 (gear cap) so that you’re not getting gear that you’ll just outgrow in another level or two - most raid leaders won’t take anyone under the gear cap.

requirements

  • Discord Voice Chat - Must have the ability to at least listen in voice chat on the Roses discord - this is an essential tool for trial leaders to coordinate the group’s efforts. Our discord can be found at https://discord.gg/H4CMYZx

  • Minimums - Minimum health and Direct damage (DD or DPS) requirements, see under Roles below.

  • Read BEFORE you sign-up - Please go to Discord under Trials & Dungeons to sign-up for any of our guild trials and dungeon runs. Depending on the trial, there may be other requirements based on the difficulty of the trial. Be sure to read the additional information provided by the trial leader including ranks required, videos and walk-thrus prior to signing up. Be sure you can make the time and date.

rules and recommendations

  • Trial Leaders Are in Charge - no matter your knowledge or ability, trial leaders have taken their time to offer this trial and you are their guest in that trial. Their word is final so act accordingly as they have every right to boot you from a trial if you are causing issues.

  • Respect - show your fellow guildies and trial group respect at all times. Do not start dramas or fights. Leave that stuff at the door of the trial. Remember that 11 other people are counting and waiting on you, so do not go afk unless the leader says it is ok. If there is an emergency, whisper the raid leader quickly and quietly and follow their direction.

  • Don’t Take Over - Do not take over discord voice chat. During the trial fights, leave the discord voice chat free of chatter so that you and others can listen to instructions from the trial leaders. Jokes and comments are welcome but pick a time where you’re not disrupting.

  • Show Up On Time - All of our raids in the Roses, require you to show up 15 minutes prior to the start of the trial. This is to give the raid leaders time to form the group, make sure everyone is in voice chat and find replacements if needed. If you are late, you may be replaced. Whisper the raid leader to make it easier for them to invite you. With 4 guilds, and ~2000 members, it’s difficult to find everyone, so help Leaders out by whispering to them that you are ready for an invite.

  • Be Patient - Many of these groups are built with folks of varying experience and skill levels. Do not run ahead, or pull mobs. Wait for the trial leader and the group. Listen patiently to explanations, as you never know when you may learn something.

  • Ask Questions - Be sure to ask questions and get clarification if you don’t understand something - leaders are there to help you learn.

roles.png

Roles

It’s important when starting trials that you have learned a single role of tank, healer or DD. Unlike solo or even dungeons, being a hybrid character doesn’t work in trials, as each person is counted on to do their role for maximum group performance. Roles include:

tank.png

TANKS
-
30-35k health minimum with food buffs
- 32k physical and spell resists (cap) with buffs
- Be environmentally aware. Have the ability and skills to mitigate damage such as blocking, roll-dodge etc.
- Ability to do melee and ranged taunts, including tab taunting
- Non-selfish sets (sets that help more than yourself) for tanking such as Ebon Armory
- Carry multiple tanking sets on character to work in tandem with offtanks when needed
- Have skill Aggressive Warhorn as an Ultimate skill

heal.png

HEALERS
- 17-18k health minimum with food buffs (prevents you from getting one-shotted)
- 30k minimum magicka
- 2k regen of magicka
- Be environmentally aware. Have the ability and skills to mitigate damage such as blocking, roll-dodge etc.
- Non-selfish sets (sets that help more than yourself) for healing such as Sanctuary
- Carry multiple healing sets on character to work in tandem with other healers when needed
- Have skill Aggressive Warhorn as an Ultimate skill

dd.png

DAMAGE DEALERS
-
17-18k health minimum with food buffs (prevents you from getting one-shotted)
- Minimum dps of ~15k to start normal Craglorn trials (otherwise the group is carrying you - not a good look!). Higher end trials will require more.
- Adequate magicka or stamina (depending on the type of character you are) and regen so that you don’t run out of these resources during an extended fight. Self resource management is important, so don’t rely on synergies!
- Know a good rotation for your class. Talk to trial leaders of your class if you’re not sure about this or refer to Alcast’s suggestions for builds.
- Be environmentally aware. Have the ability and skills to mitigate damage such as blocking, roll-dodge etc.
- If you are a melee class, have a ranged ability available to you.
- Sets that maximize your DD/DPS for either magicka or stamina builds.
- Have execute skill on your bars for fights with bosses - such as Radiant Destruction or Whirling Blades. Each class has a different execute skill but they usually say something like deals % more damage when enemy is at % health.

addons

All of our trials in the Roses require members to have the addon Raid Notifier. Tanks and healers are also required to have the addon Hodor. Other addons for specific trials can be found at Raid Mods or at ESOUI raid mods.

Terminology and soft skills needed for trials

swap12.gif

bar swapping

Also called weapon swap, a soft skill that refers to jumping from your first set of skills to the back bar and your second set of skills. You will need to be sure you have this hot-keyed to a key you feel most comfortable using, such as the side button on your mouse, as again it can be awkward and glitchy using the default. Be sure to note that you can only use the skills that are on the bar you have up. This becomes crucial during certain trials where not swapping the bar can wipe the group

blocking.png

blocking

A soft skill that is used in trials. By holding your right mouse keys down, you will place your weapons across your body that will help protect you from an ability from a mob. If you are doing this right, a gold shield will appear on your weapons. Requires stamina to perform this ability.

bash12.gif

bashing

A soft skill that is used in conjunction with blocking. As you hold your right mouse keys down to block, you will tap the left mouse button. This ability is used to interrupt casting and effects that the mobs may be doing and to set the mob off-balance. Can also be used to interrupt effects on you that have you pinned. Requires stamina to perform this ability.

kite12.gif

kiting

A soft skill that refers to moving away from an enemy while still attacking it. Using your WASD keys for example, as you cast area effect skills. You want to slowly outrun the melee mob or moving effect, before it can do damage to you. Using stuns, snares, and other control abilities aid in kiting by slowing down your opponent and allowing you to keep your distance. They key is to move just fast enough to stay ahead and out of the reach of the mobs, without resetting the mob by moving too far away.

dodge12.gif

dodge roll

A soft skill to move quickly out of an area effect. As mobs lay down area effects on the ground, you may see red areas at your character’s feet. You will need to quickly move out of that effect to help mitigate the damage you are taking. Have dodge roll hot keyed to the key you feel most comfortable using, as the default hot key for this ability is awful and glitchy! You can dodge roll in different directions as needed, so be sure to practice this skill before the trial. Can also be used to interrupt effects on you that have you pinned. Requires stamina to perform this ability.

stacking.png

stacking

A soft skill used in trials. Requires the group to gather up as a group directly behind the boss and in front of the healers. The tank will have turned the boss away from the group so stacking will always be at the tail end of the boss. This is either to mitigate damage or to make it easier for healers to heal the group with area effect heals. This should always be the go to position in all fights unless the trial leaders tell you differently.

resurrect.png

resurrecting

during any and all trials, it is the responsibility of the DD/DPS to do resurrects on dead members. Stop DD and resurrect people as soon as possible. Tank/healers should not be resurrecting, as they are tanking bosses and healing the tank.

Please note that although there are many ways to run trials -
this is what the Roses guilds require for our guild trials.
All of our trial guides are for use in our guilds and not how other groups and guilds may run trials.
